HISTORY OF THE FORD RANGER

The history of the Ford Ranger doesn’t actually begin with a midsize pickup truck using the name. Four decades earlier it would find its Ford home and with that their experimentation with the Ranger name. They knew they wanted to use it, but where it belonged seemed a matter of much deliberation.

The loosest definition of a ‘Ranger’ is a keeper of a park, forest, or the countryside. It’s associated with woodlands and active, outdoorsy folk. With that in mind, the first Ford vehicle to bear the Ranger nameplate was a 1958 sedan: The Edsel Ranger. This could be argued missed the mark entirely.

In 1967 though, Ford got significantly closer. When the fifth generation of F-Series Pickup was introduced, the top of the line trim package was dubbed the Ranger.

This feature-packed pickup truck somehow still seemed to miss the mark when it came to a truck that embodied the true spirit of the word Ranger, which at the time didn’t really bring finery to mind. It took thirteen years, but ultimately, the Ranger found its place as a pickup for people who needed a versatile vehicle. It’s evolution and continued improvements have subsequently made it a market leader.

Ford Ranger XL allows you to choose bodystyle of your choice and comes with rugged details and fitments, including 16-inch steel wheels, manual tailgate, electronic high and low range box and heated wing mirrors. Inside the XL you will find DAB radio, Bluetooth and USB connectivity, two 12V sockets and electric windows.

Ford Ranger Limited has a strong offering. It has a plush, well-appointed interior, with swathes of leather on the seats and a clean but rugged dashboard and centre console. The Wildtrak accounts for most Ranger sales.
