ProLift Tailgate Damper & Lift Assist Kit - Toyota Hilux 2018-2020

Okay, I know it is expensive, but it works. Trying to keep 5 baying hounds at bay whilst trying to drop the rear tailgate single handed is no mean feat. Firstly, the packaging is excellent, postage was quick.
Now for the nitty gritty, it might not be the correct way to fit but leave the springs mounted to the underside of the tailgate a bit on the loose side, the instructions are bit vague at times. To that end leave everything a bit loose on the body side to line up with the tail of the spring before final tightening everything up. The spring floats along a spindle so you can really focus on lining everything up and get the spring tail in the center of the stop. It took me 2 hours for one side getting everything right and about 30 minutes for the other. Once your happy everything on the body work side is tight, nip up the inside bolts (closest to number plate) for the tailgate spring first, raise the tail gate enough so you can see the outer bolts tighten. Check alignment. The piston damper on the side is easy enough so no need for detail other than, don't fight with the rear tail light if its difficulty like mine, you only need a bit of space. I forgot to mention, I am new to Hilux, drop the spare wheel to the ground and leave where it is. 1. It make for a nice head rest, 2. It gives you loads of room to move round.
This really is a well thought out piece of kit that looks and feels well engineered. So far, I drop and lift the tail gate as advertised, it’s so nice not to have to think about the weight in either direction. As we know, tail gates get filthy in the wet and its nice not get covered dropping and lifting the tailgate. One handed operation and a relaxed outcome in each direction. You will not be disappointed, bite the credit card and get one.
